Prison Pup ProgramThank you for your interest in adopting one of the Pawsitive Dog Training program graduates. Each of these dogs have spent several weeks living with their offender handlers at the Airway Heights Correction Center and have learned a variety of new behaviors to help them be good canine citizens. Please carefully read the following information. If you are able to commit to the terms of the adoption and wish to proceed, please fill out the adoption application and submit it as indicated below. In consideration of adoption, you:
Understand that the dogs in the Pawsitive Dog program have entered the program with specific behavior
issues and these issues have been worked with during their stay.
Understand that sometimes a reemergence of the issues will be noted at first when transitioning into a
new living environment.
Understand that continued work in your home will need to take place to help them transition from the prison
to a family dwelling.
Agree to contact Diamonds in the Ruff with any behavior concerns you have with the dog in order to work
through the issues.
Agree to refrain from any punishing, forceful, or coercive training techniques, but employ the positive based
techniques the dogs have become accustom to and are at the core of the program.
Understand that, if renting, the landlord/apartment manager will be contacted to verify that bringing a dog into
the residence is permitted prior to adoption (MANY dogs are returned to the shelter because prior approval
by the landlord/manager was not obtained).
Will provide housing, shelter, proper nutrition, and medical care as well as continued training and appropriate
social interactions for the dog.
Understand that completion and submission of an application does not guarantee adoption of the dog you
are applying for.
Understand that denial of an application does not mean that you may not apply again, just that it may not be
the best match for both you and the dog of interest. Reapplication for future dogs is accepted.
Agree to participate in follow up interviews and provide information about the dog after adoption in order to
help the program provide better services for the Correction Center, SpokAnimal, and future potential adopters.
Understand that no personal information will be shared with the handlers who participate in the program.
The training the dogs have received is just the beginning of their learning. We encourage all new dog owners to continue on through classes at Diamonds in the Ruff. As part of the adoption, you will receive a certificate to attend a 4 week Headstart class at Diamonds in the Ruff at a reduced rate. Attending classes helps to build a solid foundation of trust between you and your newly adopted dog and eases the transition from their life with their handlers to their new life in your home.

At the time you are accepted we ask that you pay the $150 donation and pay the balance in full on or before graduation day. Your paperwork will be processed and mailed to you. Please bring that paperwork when you arrive to pick up your dog. You will be provided a training log and other pertinent information to insure the best transition.
