Our shelter will remain closed to the public and now functions as the hub where animals come in, are evaluated, treated if sick, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered. When they are ready to go to a new home, we take them to our partners at PetSmart, Petco, or the Kitty Cantina, where they are scooped up by adopters and go off to start their new lives. We found homes for over 3,000 cats and dogs last year! At PetSmart and Petco, store volunteers keep the adoption areas clean and tidy, socialize the kitties, or help with adoptions.
Spokane pet owners have been terrific at spaying and neutering their pets, so much so that we are experiencing a shortage of adoptable dogs and cats in our immediate area. So where do we get our adoptable animals? There will always be instances where people in our community can no longer care for their pets, and we are here to help! We will take in their adoptable pets and find them a new and loving home. We also receive transports by plane or travel ourselves to areas where they are still experiencing over population of pets. If you enjoy road trips you might inquire about becoming a transport volunteer.
We have fewer, more targeted, volunteer opportunities, so you can really use your talents to help the animals. Our education program has a need for social media volunteers.
Our Bark It Market Thrift Store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am-3pm, and we receive donated treasures daily. We need thrift store volunteers to help inspect, sort, and stock donated items in the store.
